Canine Food Nutrition FAQs

	Ingredients on dog food labels are listed in the order of their weight.
	"Meat" means mostly water weight. "Meal" means the meat with the water taken out.
	The first four or five ingredients listed on the label usually make up 75% of the contents of a bag of dog food.
	Dogs have short digestive tracts designed to process proteins from meats better than from plant products.
	Rice and wheat are easier for dogs to digest than corn or soy.
	Rice Extracts are actually the leftovers from making beer. Corn gluten is the leftover from making starch and syrup.
	Soybeans and corn are the top two allergens for dogs.
	Dogs fed high protein foods while growing are at a significantly higher risk for hip dysplasia.
	Ethoxyquin, BHA, BHT are all harmful preservatives.
