Obesity is one of the most common problems for dogs in our society.  Dogs who are overweight typically develop problems with movement, skin irritations, joint mobility, heart and lung function, liver function, bladder function, pancreatic function, spinal flexibility, and many, many more health problems.  Dogs who are overweight feel bad.  They do not feel comfortable with play activities and can often become moody as a result of their inability to properly exercise.   At Possum Hollow we will develop a regular exercise and nutrition program for your dog that will give them back their old bounce and a longer, healthier life.

Strength and Endurance Building

Dogs are built for motion.  They are designed especially for speed and some for quickness.  No dog is in condition if it is unable to run, trot or at least walk at least a mile in moderate weather without panting.  Dogs that are out of condition are at risk of heat stroke, one of the most common killers of dogs during the hotter months of summer.  Dogs that run or pace along fence lines are especially at risk while their owners are away.  Muscles, tendons and ligaments all benefit from regular exercise.  Heart and respiratory systems all require regular exercise for optimal functioning.  Regular exercise lessens hyperactivity and reduces nervous and destructive energy.

Nutrition
